Buster's Story

Eugene (Buster) Paterni was Scott Satterlund’s first friend at St Mary of Redford when Scott transferred over from Cook Elementary School on Puritan in Detroit. Buster introduced Scott to his friend Jeff Floyd. The three of them used to take the Greenfield bus to Northland (then a new mall) on Saturdays to hang out.

Buster and Scott got the idea to open a coffeehouse while in high school. Buster found the empty storefront on Warren Avenue in Northwest Detroit with his Dad, Eugene. Scott’s Dad, Don Satterlund, secured the permits and took care of other legal things. Both families worked to renovate & set up the joint with tables, tablecloths, a reservation, check in place, etc.

The place was called “Tabatha Coffeehouse”.

Later, Buster and his wife, Karen, named their second daughter Tabatha.

They had a lot of fun there and it was a huge hit with the young scene. The Bouys played regularly at Tabatha Coffehouse, entertaining patrons.

Buster, Scott and Jeff remained lifelong friends.

Buster went on to work for Don Satterlund at his company, Satterlund Supply, and retired after 37 years.
